EU Reiterates: Ukraine Must Be Central to All Peace Talks
"Today, we have discussed the current situation, and we are clear that there should be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine," von der Leyen and Costa said on US social media company X.
The two leaders reiterated Europe’s steadfast support for Ukraine, underlining their commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.
"As next steps, European leaders will meet tomorrow on the margins of the G20 and then in Angola at the EU-AU meeting," von der Leyen and Costa added.
The draft plan reportedly backed by the United States calls for Ukraine to renounce NATO membership, recognize Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk as effectively under Russian control, and withdraw troops to establish a demilitarized zone in Donbas. In return, Ukraine would receive security guarantees modeled on NATO’s collective defense principle.
