European Leaders Praise Trump-Led Ukraine Peace Efforts
The declaration, endorsed by figures such as Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted “close work between Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s and President Trump’s teams as well as European teams over the recent days and weeks.”
The leaders emphasized their commitment to collaborating with Trump and Zelenskyy “to get to a lasting peace which preserves Ukrainian sovereignty and European security,” stressing the “strong convergence between the United States, Ukraine and Europe.”
They also stressed that “ensuring the security, sovereignty, and prosperity of Ukraine was integral for wider Euro-Atlantic security” and affirmed that Ukraine deserved “a prosperous, independent, and sovereign future, free from fear of future Russian aggression.”
As part of a potential framework to conclude the conflict, the statement outlined pledges from the US and Europe to provide “robust security guarantees and economic recovery support measures.”
These measures encompass ongoing assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s military, which “should remain at a peacetime level of 800,000,” and the establishment of a “European-led ‘multinational force Ukraine’” functioning under the Coalition of the Willing, with backing from the US.
