Founded by Palestinian chef Fadi Kattan, Nabeeth is building a permanent place for Palestinian wine in Britain, from restaurant wine lists and independent merchants to nationwide online sales.

From indigenous grape varieties growing in the hills around Bethlehem to a new generation of family winemakers across Palestine and the Galilee, Palestinian wine is finding a growing audience in Britain.

Nabeeth Wine & Spirits, the UK importer and distributor founded by Palestinian chef and author Fadi Kattan, is expanding access to Palestinian wines and beers, connecting producers with restaurants, sommeliers, wine bars, independent merchants and, through its newly launched online shop, consumers nationwide.

Nabeeth’s portfolio includes wines from Cremisan Wine Estate, Taybeh Winery, Jascala and Ashkar Winery, alongside beers from the pioneering Taybeh Brewing Company.

But its mission is larger than importing bottles: Nabeeth was created to give Palestinian wine a lasting place within contemporary British wine culture and to allow the people, agriculture and landscapes behind those wines to be encountered on their own terms.

“Palestinian food has increasingly found its place on tables around the world, but Palestinian wine remains far less understood,” says Kattan. “These wines speak of our land, our grapes, our producers and our history. I want people to discover Palestine through what is poured into their glass, just as they have discovered it through our food.”

INDIGENOUS GRAPES, CONTEMPORARY WINES

Wine has been part of Palestine’s agricultural landscape for millennia, yet many local grape varieties remain little known internationally.

At Cremisan Wine Estate, established near Bethlehem in 1885, wines are produced from indigenous Palestinian varieties including Dabouki, Hamdani, Jandali and Baladi, connecting contemporary winemaking with grapes long cultivated in the Palestinian landscape.

Elsewhere, Taybeh Winery produces wines in the hills of Taybeh; family-run Jascala and Ashkar Winery offer different expressions of Palestinian winemaking in the Galilee; and Taybeh Brewing Company represents Palestine’s contemporary craft brewing culture.

Together they reveal not one expression of Palestinian wine and drinks culture, but different landscapes, families, grapes and approaches.

BUILDING A PLACE IN BRITAIN

Nabeeth is developed by Kattan alongside Anna Patrowicz, co-founder and sommelier, with a focus on education and building relationships across Britain’s hospitality and wine trades.

Palestinian wines supplied by Nabeeth can already be found across a growing network of restaurants, wine bars and independent merchants, including Akub, Jikoni, The Parakeet, Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, Ishbilia, Queen of Cups, Rind Park Road, Shrine to the Vine, Wild & Lees, Poon’s, Clark’s and Brunswick House, among others.

The aim is not to position Palestinian wine as a curiosity, but alongside wines from established regions around the world — tasted, discussed and judged on what is in the glass.

That mission is now expanding directly to consumers with the launch of the Nabeeth online shop, offering individual bottles and curated selections of Palestinian wines for nationwide UK delivery.

WINE AS CULTURE, AGRICULTURE AND MEMORY

Behind Nabeeth’s commercial mission is a cultural one.

Palestine is frequently encountered internationally through politics and conflict. Nabeeth offers another encounter: through agriculture, taste, craftsmanship and the relationship between people and land.

“A bottle can tell the story of a vineyard. An indigenous grape can preserve agricultural memory,” says Kattan. “When somebody in Britain opens one of these bottles, there is an opportunity to discover not only a wine, but the landscape and people behind it.”

This reflects Kattan’s wider work as a chef and author of Bethlehem: A Celebration of Palestinian Food, championing Palestinian ingredients, producers and culinary traditions. Nabeeth takes that conversation beyond the plate and into the glass.

“The dream is that one day someone walks into their local wine shop and asks for a Palestinian wine just as they might ask for a bottle from any other wine-producing country,” says Kattan. “No explanation should be necessary. The wine should have earned its place on the shelf.”
